Dat’l Hook Ya Gazpacho

Saint Augustine FL is our home town, the nations oldest city. We have many ties to Spain and the culture still lives on. Not only that, the summer gets hot here and we need a refreshing drink to cool us down. Here is our new world twist on an old world classic! We have a few different twists from the traditional style, such as a little spice and the garnishes on the glass. You can garnish this with anything you like, even add some basil to give it a more vibrant taste. Its easy to make and nutritious. This is a very light drink meaning not heavy or over powerful in any way. Its made to refresh you after being in the hot sun.

2.5 pounds ripe Plum tomatoes

3/4 cup diced red onion

1 Cucumber (about 1/2 pound peeled and chopped)

2 cloves fresh garlic minced

1 Green Bell pepper chopped

3 tbsp Olive oil

2 tbsp Sherry vinegar

1/4 tsp cumin

2 tbsp Dat’l Hook Ya sauce

1 slice of bread (a baguette of 2 oz in size is best)

1 tsp sea salt

Garnish’s of your choice. We like dried salami, prosciutto, and fresh veggies on the rim

Core the plum tomatoes. You don’t want the seeds or inside flesh. In a blender add the cored plum tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, Dat’l Hook Ya sauce, garlic, salt, cumin and sherry vinegar. Blend until smooth. Add in the olive oil and blend another 1 min. Place the bread into the blender, push it deep in so it can soak up the juices and let it sit 10 min. Once 10 min passes, blend until smooth. Add more pepper, salt or spice to taste. Even a squirt of lemon brings it up a knotch. Place into the fridge for 4-6 hours or until chilled. Garnish glasses the way you please, serve and enjoy a classic cold drink that is healthy for you!
