Have you ever looked around your boat and seen those horrible stains on your gelcoat and powder coat? Do you see your bait dying in the livewell? It was likely due to your traditional sunscreen! Our sunscreen was designed by an outdoorsman from the ground up for that extreme outdoor activity in mind. After hundreds of hours testing different variations in intense Florida offshore conditions, we came up with the perfect formula. When used properly, it will only leave a very light white finish, unlike the white pasty look of other sunscreens. It is very sweat resistant and will not run into your eyes and sting. It's perfect for outdoor activities like surfing, fishing, golfing, hiking, biking, and more. Finally a safe mineral based sunscreen that works without making you look like a ghost.

Does this sunscreen work? Absolutely! The developer is a three time head and neck cancer survivor. They received intense radiation to the skin and cannot run the risk of a sun burn. Frequently Asked Questions

We want to make sure our sunscreen is perfect for you! Here are the most asked questions:

1) Is your sunscreen safe for kids? Absolutely! We use it on our own children from ages 9 months and up. We only want the best for our little ones

2) Does your sunscreen contain nano-particles? No it does not. This is a requirement to be reef friendly.

3) How do you know it is boat safe? We did 18 months of testing on many formulations. One of our tests applied the sunscreen to a variety of boat surfaces and left them in contact for 3 months. Our formulation did not stain gel coat, plastic, or powder coat under controlled conditions and in real life application to our boats in regular use.

4) Do you have a fragrance? No, there is no added fragrance. This is a critical aspect for anglers as if you touch baits with hands that have unnatural odors, it can detract from getting the fish strikes you want. This is also good for those with fragrance allergies.

5) Does your sunscreen go on clear? No. It leaves a very light barely visible white finish when dry. We feel we are the least visible on the market. Any mineral sunscreen that goes on clear is likely not reef safe. Traditional sunscreens absorb into the skin and your blood stream, hence why they are clear. Mineral based sunscreens work by adding a layer to the top of your skin that reflects sunlight. That being said, we have formulated one of the most cosmetic appealing mineral sunscreens. It will leave an ultralight white finish when you are dry that is difficult to see when applied correctly. When you go swimming and contact water, it will look a little more white, but less than other brands. Some report a slight blue hue on the skin when wet.

6) I have a dark complexion, how much white cast can I expect? We feel our sunscreen is one of the lightest white casts on the market. That being said, as skin complexion varies from person to person, in general darker tones will show more of a white cast. To some, the benefits of our sunscreens durability in water and sun protection outweigh the dissatisfaction of a light white cast. Unfortunately, a true clear mineral sunscreen does not exist as the way mineral sunscreens work is by adding a layer to the skin to reflect light. Although it should be noted there is a difference in the quality of non-nano zinc and we only use the best and highest grade available.

7) How do you know its bait safe? We tested in real world conditions over hundreds of hours fishing with no loss of live bait

8) Is it sweat and water resistant? Absolutely! We tested many formulations and ended up with one of the most water resistant sunscreens you can buy. It will not run into your eyes and sting. We tested it in intense Florida offshore fishing, surfing, golfing, swimming, hiking, gardening and more. No matter the activity, it simply stays on and protects you!

9) Where is your sunscreen made? Our sunscreen was developed in Saint Augustine Florida and is bottled in Miami Florida in a FDA approved facility

10) Will your sunscreen stain clothes? Mineral sunscreens work by leaving a layer on top of your skin vs being absorbed into your skin. Due to this, mineral based sunscreens can leave a residue on clothes as they rub back and forth on the skin. Most of these sunscreen stains can be washed off

11) I heard not all reef safe sunscreen are approved for use in Hawaii, Mexico and other countries. Is yours approved? This is a correct statement that not all "reef safe" and "bio degradable" sunscreens are approved for use in certain states or countries. The reason is, there is no real approval process that is in place as of now to have a "reef safe" label. That being said, there are certain guidelines that exist that are accepted. Hook Ya did a lot of research into each component to follow these guidelines. Our development had to keep the safety of our customers in mind and the marine environment as much as we could with current knowledge. We contacted directly larger resorts and organizations in marine sensitive environments in Mexico, Hawaii, and other countries. We are proud to say that they all approved our ingredients being used and do not have any issue with our sunscreen.

12) Most mineral sunscreens only have zinc oxide, why did you add titanium dioxide? This is a great question. Both minerals have different properties and when combined, have better sun protection than either alone. Zinc oxide provides broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection with more protection from UVA ,while titanium dioxide is also broad spectrum but more successful at combating shorter wave UVB rays. Moreover, higher concentrations of zinc can cause individuals with skin issues such as acne to have more outbreaks due to the weight of the zinc and clogging pores. Titanium dioxide is lighter weight and less likely to clog pores and allows for a smoother application. We put a lot of thought into all the ingredients.

13) I have a lot of facial hair and body hair in general, does yours leave the hair white? This is one of the greatest challenges with any mineral sunscreen. Remember, mineral sunscreens work by leaving a layer on the skin so this will also leave a layer on body hair. With more rubbing, if can be worked in but there will be more of a white cast than a person with no body hair. The reason is the base of the hair follicle makes it difficult to rub in. This is a common difficulty with all mineral sunscreens, even those that claim to be clear.

14) Is your mineral sunscreen hard to spread like others? We have developed our mineral sunscreen to be one of the smoothest to apply. Our focus was to bring the best experience possible as mineral based sunscreens can be a challenge to apply. This is accomplished through only using the highest quality suppliers of components and the proper ratios of them. Compared to traditional sunscreens, our formula still takes more effort, but it will rub in for a light finish if not over applied.
